Pigeon Hole, also known as Nitjpurru or Bunbidee Community, is located roughly 450 kilometres south-west of Katherine. The community was established by former workers of the Pigeon Hole Station which is approximately 7 kilometres away.
The Indigenous languages spoken around the Pigeon Hole area include Bilinara, Mudburra, Ngaringman and Gurindji.
A one way journey, driving from Katherine to Pigeon Hole/Nitjpurru, will take approximately 5 hours. The main '4 wheel drive only' dirt track is annually cut off in the ‘Wet Season’ (Dec - Mar).
